A fixture around the Bentley campus for decades, the arrival of Arthur Kennedy at Bentley roughly coincided with the beginning of the varsity athletic program.

Professor emeritus of history from his retirement in 1984 until his death in 2014, Kennedy's influence on all aspects of the college was major. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, the Oklahoma native has served as chairman of the History Department, NCAA faculty representative (a position he held for many years), chairman or the Task Force for self-study, and eventual Accreditation, director of the Task Force for the Establishment of the Graduate School and chairman or the Graduate Council.

Despite his numerous responsibilities and interests. "Doc" also found time to be a loyal supporter of all the Falcon athletic teams.

"Arthur was always concerned with the individual welfare of the student-athlete," said Al Shields, Bentley’s Director of Athletics from 1963-91. "Through the years. he personally counseled hundreds of student-athletes on personal, as well as academic matters.

"Arthur was a spokesman on several occasions to the various alumni chapters on the value and integrity of our athletic programs.”

Professor Kennedy received his Bachelor’s degree from East Central State College in Oklahoma in 1941 and his doctorate from Northwestern in 1955.
