Bob Weafer never donned a uniform for any athletic team at Bentley College. Likewise, he never coached one of the college's teams.
Â
However, he was one of the men most responsible for the development of the successful athletic program, and in 1987, was honored

posthumously with induction into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame.
Â
Weafer, who passed away in February 1986. was

associated with the college for over 30 years, beginning in 1954 when he was hired as an accounting professor. From 1965 until 1982, he served Bentley as Vice President for Business and Finance and Treasurer, during which time he was very instrumental in the college's move from Boston to Waltham.
Â
After stepping down as vice president, he returned to the accounting faculty until his December 1984 retirement.
Â
At the time of his death, Weafer was serving as chairman of the 1986 Bentley College Hall of

Fame Selection Committee. He was also a key

member on the Falcon Club Executive Board for a number of years and a loyal supporter of all the athletic teams.
Born in Morrisville, Vt., Weafer was a graduate of Northeastern University and Boston University and was a certified public accountant. While at Northeastern, Weafer was very active with the athletic programs, both tutoring athletes and handling the filming of football games.
Â
"Bob, along with Presidents Adamian and Morison, deserves a great deal of the credit for the growth and development of the Bentley athletic program," said Al Shields, Bentley’s director of athletics from 1963-91. “He

was an avid sports fan and was very much aware of the value that a well-run athletic program adds to an institution. His 20-year connection with the athletic department left a very positive, indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing and working with him."
