In the spring of 1980, Maureen DeLuke became the first woman in Bentley College history to be selected as the colleges Outstanding Senior Athlete It was no real surprise, although there was some strong competition, since she had been a standout in both basketball and field hockey throughout her career.

A native of Scotia, N.Y., Maureen earned nine varsity letters during her four years at Bentley, four each in basketball and field hockey and one in softball. The teams that she played on met with a great deal of success, combining for a .630 winning percentage.

During the fall, Maureen was a standout on the field hockey team. A halfback for most of her career, she was moved to the forward line as a senior and responded with nine goals (second on the team) and three assists while helping the Falcons to a third-place finish in the AIAW Division Il Championships. In the tournament, the Wendy Anderson-coached team posted wins over Denver, Lehigh and LaSalle.

Maureen was also a key member of 'Bentley's undefeated 1977 team (12-0-2). She was selected as the team's MVP as a freshman and was a first-team All-Northeast honoree as a freshman and sophomore.

The former Scotia-Glenville High School standout finished her basketball career as the second all-time leading scorer in the college's history with 802 points, 19 shy of the record. During her senior year, the success (and the resulting extended season) of the field hockey team forced her to miss the first six basketball games. It didn't seem to bother her as she scored 16 in her first game and finished the year with a career-high and team-leading 13.6 scoring average. The 5'6" guard reached double figures in her final 14 games and had a career-high 28 against Salem State.

Eighth on the career scoring list at the time of her 1986 induction, Maureen also led the team in scoring as a sophomore.

Maureen only played one year of softball, but what a season that was! She hit .368 with four homers and 16 RBIs while helping lead the team to an outstanding 10-2 season. The four homers were both a Bentley single season and career record at the time.
