Over the years, Bentley College has been fortunate to have a number of outstanding point guards. One of the best was also one of the first and smallest.

Gerry Robillard came out of New Bedford's Holy Name High School to play on the college’s first four varsity basketball teams (1963-67). With Gerry running the show, Bentley was 67-20 during that period while averaging over 90 points a game. He also stood out defensively, with his specialties including ball stealing and breaking up opponent's fast breaks.

The owner of a career scoring average exceeding 11 points a game, Gerry saved his best for Iast, averaging 13.7 markers and handing out 154 assists (then a school-record) while helping the Al Shields-coached Falcons win 18 of 22 games. That club averaged better than 96 points a game. Following the campaign, Gerry was selected to play in the 12th annual Hall of Fame Game and was named co-MVP of the team, an honor he shared with another future Hall of Famer, Bob Walker.

Gerry, whose career assist record of 390 was later broken by Brian Hammel, has continued to be active in Bentley athletics for more than twenty-plus years after his graduation. He served as President of the Falcon Club and was the longtime official scorer for men's basketball games. He was also active as a college and high school basketball referee.
